Aritz Sorts It Out is a portrait of a young man called Aritz who lives in the Basque country in a town called Arrasate.
The images in this book are arranged in pairs, each pair showing the same set of objects arranged by Aritz in two different ways. Each pair has a key to explain what or who Aritz has arranged, and how he’s arranged them. The text is in Basque, Spanish, and English.
This project was inspired by Hot Wheels model cars, and Carl Andre’s grid formatted sculptures. It embraces the joy of order, and investigates the possibilities of portraiture with an occasionally absent subject.
This first edition of Aritz Sorts It Out is limited to 110 stamped, numbered, and initialled copies.
Each copy comes with two 350gsm A6 postcards, and a matching Bitumen “b” button badge.
A video preview of the book, and interview with the artist can be found below.
The last image in the slide show above shows eight postcards of images from the Bitumen books Aa-Zz, Aritz Sorts It Out, Carrio and Look that are not included with the sale of those books, but are available separately.
