Completable Project #1: Aa-Zz was made to a strict set of rules, the first being to photograph all of the letters of the English alphabet twice.
The project was conceived as a playful investigation into the relationship between authorship of an image, and authorship of its meaning. The untitled images constitute fragments of evidence designed to invite diverse narratives - a variety of completions.
Professor Simon Kirby of Edinburgh University provides one possible completion in the final spread of the book, mining the fabric of the images to investigate the link between photography and synaesthesia. This investigation follows a short essay on abdication of responsibility by the artist.
This first edition of Completable Project #1 is limited to 100 stamped, numbered, and initialled copies.
Each copy comes with two 350gsm A6 postcards, and a matching Bitumen “b” button badge.
A video preview of the book, and interview with the artist can be found below.
The last image in the slide show above shows eight postcards of images from the Bitumen books Aa-Zz, Aritz Sorts It Out, Carrio and Look that are not included with the sale of those books, but are available separately.
